Birmingham Barbarians RFC

After the amalgamation of both Birchfield RFC and Kynoch RFC, Birmingham Barbarians RFC was formed in the early 2000’s and play at Moor Lane fields in Perry Barr.

Their kit is the perfect mix between the two defunct clubs and honours the long playing history of the members associated with the Barbarians.

Despite a history of dwindling playing numbers within the local area and the noisy neighbours of Aston Old Edwardians up the road, Birmingham Barbarians have maintained their place in the Birmingham Merit League in the face of strong adversity.

Their greatest success, and one which can dwarf the achievements of many teams in the local area, came on 28th May 2011 where the team had the chance to live every rugby player’s dream of stepping out onto the hallowed turf of Twickenham after winning the Guinness – Club Together competition.

35 players from the Barbarians squad faced up against each other shortly after the elite players of the English game finished their season finale. The teams were split into two sides, the Vikings and Saxons and faced off, eventually drawing 5-5.

Dave Lawley, captain of the Vikings, and from Sutton Coldfield said: “We really have experienced something today that 99 per cent of rugby players can only dream of and everyone was awestruck by the day’s events.”

The smile will stay on our faces for a long time to come.”

This season sparks a change for the Barbarians with the RFU stating they will become Birmingham’s first true Barbarian setup; no matter who you are, where you play or who you play for, you can be guaranteed a run out for the Barbarians.

As the Barbarians share the rugby spirit this page was set up to continue, we would like to invite members of the playing community to further support the Birmingham Barbarians. If you would like to stick your boots on again and have a run out on a Saturday afternoon then please visit: http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/rfcbirminghambarbarians who will always be happy to accommodate.
